California Minimum Wage and Economy

California offers a truly unique living experience in the United States. The amazing topography and world-famous weather are not the only benefits of living and studying in this amazing state. California's minimum wage is currently $16 per hour, and went into effect onÌýJanuary 1, 2024. When you are considering the cost of college, be sure you factor the local minimum wage into your calculations. The gross financial difference between a $10.57Ìýper hour minimum wageÌý(US Average)Ìýand a $16Ìýper hour minimum wage is significant. For a student working 20Ìýhours per week each week of a 14Ìýweek semester, thisÌýnearlyÌý$6Ìýper hour difference meansÌýan extra gross income of $1,520Ìýper semester orÌý$3,042Ìýper year.

Jobs Are Available to WCBC Students

We are dedicated to providing our students with as many job resources and opportunities as possible. This is part ofÌýour broadÌýview of financial aid. Because of the testimony of our current and past students, many employers strongly prefer to hire our students whenever possible.ÌýLancaster's mayor, Rex Parris, describesÌýWCBC students as, "...the most sought after people to doÌýjobs that... traditionally go to college students."*ÌýFrom local restaurants, retail, warehouse, and manufacturing jobs, to employment and partnerships withÌýmajor national and international organizations, WCBC's students areÌýcurrently experiencing one of the greatest economic opportunities its enrolled students have ever seen.

Job Listing Portal

OurÌýlocal knownÌýjob listings portal is available to all of our newly accepted student applicants and active studentsÌýfrom anywhere in the world. Our Office of Financial Aid provides a list of hiring employers along with direct links to their online applicationÌýprocess. Our teamÌýlocates fresh employment opportunities regularly and helps to pair our students with those opportunities.ÌýThis gives our students many extra special advantages to begin the job search process long before even moving to our campus.ÌýPlease follow this link to see current job opportunities.

Personal Employment Coaching

Any resident or online student can also receiveÌýpersonal coaching in resume development, job hunting, and interview skillsÌýfrom the Office of Financial Aid. Whether you have never made a resume before or you would just like some pointers on how to stand out in that group interview, we are here to help you succeed.

Income Creation Efforts

In addition,Ìýour Office of Financial Aid staff and college leadershipÌýare constantly, actively involved in developing new opportunities and partnershipsÌýto support students' financial needs. As a team, we are personally committed to partnering with each student until they secure the job they need.

Transportation

While seekingÌýand after securing your job, having reliable transportation available to you is an absolute necessity. Â鶹BÓ°Ôº is committed to assisting our students in this area as well byÌýproviding two transportation options. First, all students may ride the Job Seeker Shuttle at no cost to visit employers to follow up on applications with a face-to-face meeting. As long as students are seeking employment, this service is free. Once you are hired, a student may ride the Job Shuttle to and from work for only $5.00 each way – anywhere in a twelve-mile radius! Generally speaking, this is a much cheaper option than owning, operating, insuring, and registering, and maintaining your own vehicle.

Job Fairs

Â鶹BÓ°Ôº hosts annual job fairsÌýto allow students to connect with employers from around the Antelope Valley. Our primary Job Fair takes place during the opening week of college each fall and provides many great employment opportunities for students wanting work.
